Having previously taken two other Texes exams, I can confidently say that this was the most challenging one. There were many unfamiliar concepts and terms that I had no prior knowledge of, and additional study time would not have made a significant difference in my understanding. It is crucial to have a strong grasp of vocabulary and the laws pertaining to ESL/Bilingual programs. Additionally, having an understanding of word pronunciation and the mechanics of speech production is important. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the specific terminology or study methods for mastering these skills. However, during the exam, there were several questions that required knowledge of symbols related to these concepts.

The test was incredibly difficult and I was convinced that I had failed. However, to my surprise, I received a high passing score. My advice would be to utilize all the free resources available and avoid spending money on study guides. When approaching the test, imagine a perfect world and choose the most suitable answers based on that scenario. It's important to have an understanding of key terms like morpheme, phoneme, morphology, phonology, CALPS, BICS, as well as the differences between ESL and Bilingual programs. Familiarize yourself with program entry and exit procedures, school responsibilities, committee involvement, and parental responsibilities. It's also helpful to refer to the testing site guide and research any unfamiliar words or definitions related to ESL/Bilingual programs in Texas. During the test, try eliminating two answers before narrowing it down to two options and selecting the best answer based on your knowledge of ESL. Keep in mind that on a weighted test, you only lose points for leaving questions unanswered. Personally, I have passed three Texes exams without spending a single penny. If I can do it, anyone can!
