While preparing for the test, I utilized the Interactive Study Guide For The TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities Tests By Nancy J. Hadley and Marilyn J. Eisenwine as my primary resource. I read through the book once and completed all the activities a second time. My studying commenced about 2 weeks before the test, and luckily, many of the terms were still fresh in my mind from college. I followed a consistent study routine of about an hour each day, recognizing that too much studying can lead to confusion and overthinking. Although some said this test was easy or common sense and therefore my efforts were in vain, I also spoke with fellow teachers who had failed it initially and advised me to thoroughly review. Thus, I believe I found a satisfactory balance in my preparation.

At the beginning of the test, I was confident and thought it would be a breeze. However, things changed when I reached question 11 and encountered the ELL questions. I found myself second-guessing all that I had learned and struggled to decide between my own understanding and what the state of Texas deems correct. As I reached the halfway point, I picked up my pace while reading the questions as that is how I comprehend best - without having to constantly re-read them. Ultimately, it took me 1 hour and 35 minutes to complete the test. Although I went back to review any marked questions, I did not change my answers. My scores were received on Friday after taking the test on Monday, with a score of 279. The lesson here is to use testing strategies that suit your personal style best. Despite being advised not to rush through the test, for me it was necessary in order for me to perform at my highest potential without overthinking things. Good luck!
