Grades 4-8 Certifications

Core Subjects 4-8
The Core Subjects 4-8 Texas teacher certification area allows you to teach any one or a combination of English, math, science and/or social studies classes at the middle school level, 4th through 8th grade. Bilingual Core Subjects 4-8
As a certified teacher in the Core Subjects 4-8 (211) Texas area, you have the opportunity to instruct middle school students in English, math, science, and/or social studies. To obtain additional certification in bilingual education, you must also complete the Bilingual Education Supplemental (164) and Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT) Spanish (190). Fluency in Spanish is necessary for eligibility. As part of the admission process, your college transcripts will be evaluated and a minimum of 24 credit hours in math, science, social studies, and English is required. Learn more

ESL Core Subjects 4-8
Using the Core Subjects 4-8 (211) Texas teacher certification area, you can teach any one or more classes at the middle school level, from 4th grade through 8th grade, in English, math, science, and/or social studies. You will also need to take the English as a Second Language/Supplemental (154) test if you plan to add the ESL certification. Admission requirements: Your college transcripts will be reviewed. Science 4-8
A Texas teacher certification in Science 4-8 allows you to teach science classes from 4th to 8th grades. Admission Requirements: Your college transcripts will be reviewed. A minimum of 24 credits in Biology is required. Chemistry, physics, and geology classes are preferred. Taking the Tx PACT may qualify you if you do not have the required credit hours for Science 4-8. Mathematics 4-8
With the Mathematics 4-8 Texas teacher certification area, you will be able to teach math classes from 4th through 8th grade. A minimum of 15 credits in math is required for admission. If you do not have the required credit hours for Math 4-8, you can take the Tx PACT to get into the program. Learn more

English Language Arts & Reading 4-8
The English Language Arts & Reading 4-8 Texas teacher certification area allows you to teach English classes, 4th grade through 8th grade. Requirements for Admission: Your college transcripts will be reviewed. You must have a minimum of 15 credits in English. You can qualify for ELAR 4-8 by taking the Texas PACT if you do not have the required credits. Learn more

Upon obtaining your Texas teacher certification in English Language Arts & Reading/Social Studies 4-8, you will be able to teach English and social studies in grades 4-8. The Mathematics/Science 4-8 Texas teacher certification area allows you to teach math and science classes, 4th grade through 8th grade. Upon acceptance, your college transcripts will be reviewed. Social Studies 4-8 (118)
The Social Studies 4-8 Texas teacher certification area allows you to teach social studies classes, 4th grade through 8th grade. We will review your college transcripts in order to determine if you qualify for the program. A minimum of 24 credit hours (History, Government, Geography, Economics and Political Science) is required. To qualify for the program, you need to take the Tx PACT. Learn more
