Core Subjects EC-6
In the Core Subjects EC-6 certification area, you can teach English, math, science, social studies, music, art, health, and physical education to elementary school students. The minimum number of credit hours you must have on your college transcripts is 24 (math, science, social studies, and English). Learn more
Bilingual Core Subjects EC-6
The Core Subjects EC-6 (291) Texas teacher certification area covers a wide range of subjects, such as English, math, science, social studies, music, art, health and physical education. If you would like to obtain bilingual certification in addition to this, you will need to complete the Bilingual Education Supplemental (164) and Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT) Spanish (190). Fluency in Spanish is a necessary qualification. To meet the admission requirements, your college transcripts will be evaluated, with a minimum of 24 credit hours in core subjects (math, science, social studies, and English) being mandatory. ESL Core Subjects EC-6
At the elementary level, from Early Childhood through 6th grade, you can teach English, math, science, social studies, music, art, health and physical education under the Core Subjects EC-6 (291) Texas teacher certification area. ESL certification requires passing the English as a Second Language/Supplemental (154) test. Speech 7-12
With the Speech 7-12 Texas teacher certification area, you can teach 7th grade through 12th grade speech communications courses. You must submit your college transcripts for consideration. To qualify for the program, you must have a minimum of 12 credit hours in Speech/Communications. If you do not have the necessary credits, you can take the Tx PACT. Learn more
English Language Arts and Reading 7-12
In the English Language Arts and Reading 7-12 Texas teacher certification area, you can teach English and reading courses in 7th through 12th grades. A minimum of 24 credit hours of English will be required for admission. You may be eligible for the program if you do not have the required credit hours for ELAR 7-12, but you can take the Texas PACT to qualify. Learn more

In the Life Science 7-12 Texas teacher certification area, you can teach life science courses in 7th through 12th grade. Admission requirement: Your college transcripts will be reviewed. A Texas teacher certification area in mathematics 7-12 allows you to teach mathematics classes in grades 7-12. A minimum of 24 credit hours in mathematics are required for admission. Bilingual Core Subjects 4-8
As a certified teacher in the Core Subjects 4-8 (211) Texas area, you have the opportunity to instruct middle school students in English, math, science, and/or social studies. To obtain additional certification in bilingual education, you must also complete the Bilingual Education Supplemental (164) and Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT) Spanish (190). In the Art EC-12 Texas teacher certification area, you can teach art from elementary school through high school, from early childhood to twelfth grade. We will review your college transcripts and require that you have 15 or more credits in Art. If you do not have the required credit hours, you may apply for Art EC-12 by taking the Tx PACT. Special Education EC-12 (161)
The Special Education EC-12 Texas teacher certification encompasses various subjects, such as English resource, math resource, science resource, social studies resource, content mastery, inclusion or life skills. It allows you to teach at all levels from elementary through high school and Early Childhood through 12th grade. To be eligible for admission into this program, your college transcripts will be evaluated. You must have a minimum of 15 credit hours in math, science, social studies, and English. Physical Education EC-12 (158)
You can teach physical education in elementary, middle, and high school, from early childhood through 12th grade, with the Texas Physical Education EC-12 teacher certification area. A minimum of 15 credit hours in Physical Education or Kinesiology are required. The Texas PACT can be used to qualify if you do not have the required credit hours for Physical Education EC-12. You can teach Spanish from kindergarten through 12th grade with the LOTE Spanish EC-12 Texas teacher certification area. Upon admission, your college transcripts will be reviewed. You must have at least 12 credit hours in Spanish. You must be fluent in Spanish.
